Vor Frue Kirke (the Church of Our Lady) is not just the most recognisable building in town – it is the only church in the world built on a Greek cross plan with five towers, and an architectural masterpiece from the Danish Middle Ages. The church crowns the hilltop where the nobleman Esbern Snare founded his castle and town around 1170, and the silhouette of its five towers has become the very symbol of Kalundborg.
