The Story

What is Margueritruten?

In 1991, the Danish Tourist Board commissioned a single, signposted route that would loop through every region of the country — past the castles, the coast, and the inland farms most visitors miss.

They marked it with a small daisy on a brown sign: Queen Margrethe II's favourite flower, and a clue that you've left the motorway behind.

"Slow the car, and the country gets bigger."

Today the loop runs roughly 4,218 km. It crosses Jutland's heaths, the soft hills of Funen, the chalk cliffs of Møn, and the long causeways into Zealand.

This site catalogues every section, town, and landmark you'll pass along the way — from Skagen at the northern tip to the southern Sønderjylland border.

Practical

Before you go

  • The signs

Look for the small brown sign with a yellow daisy. Where you see it, you're still on the route.

  • Direction

The route is a loop. Most drive it clockwise from Skagen, but either direction works.

  • Length

About 4,218 km, or two to three weeks at a comfortable pace.

  • Ferries

Three short crossings: Helsingør–Helsingborg, Spodsbjerg–Tårs, and Hov–Sælvig. Reservations rarely required.
