Denmark · the scenic loop · est. 1991
4,218 km of the long way home.
A signed scenic route through nine regions, two hundred headline castles, churches, and clifftops — and every coast worth pulling over for.
The Story
What is Margueritruten?
In 1991, the Danish Tourist Board commissioned a single, signposted route that would loop through every region of the country — past the castles, the coast, and the inland farms most visitors miss.
They marked it with a small daisy on a brown sign: Queen Margrethe II's favourite flower, and a clue that you've left the motorway behind.
"Slow the car, and the country gets bigger."
Today the loop runs roughly 4,218 km. It crosses Jutland's heaths, the soft hills of Funen, the chalk cliffs of Møn, and the long causeways into Zealand.
This site catalogues every section, town, and landmark you'll pass along the way — from Skagen at the northern tip to the southern Sønderjylland border.
