A distinctive silo and a carefully reconstructed warehouse in Doverodde form the setting for this new, permanent part of the museum. Here, you can explore changing exhibitions with hand-picked works from the country’s largest art collection and take part in exciting events – all in close dialogue with the site's architecture, history, and natural landscape. With SMK Thy, art and our shared cultural heritage are brought out into the wider country – inviting visitors to thought-provoking experiences, meaningful conversations, and new communities. Opening Exhibition: The Journey from Paris 30 August – 2 November 2025SMK Thy opens with the exhibition The Journey from Paris, which tells the story of how some of the collection's most iconic works made their way from Paris to Copenhagen in the early 20th century. The works were created by some of the leading figures of modernism – Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Georges Braque, Raoul Dufy, and Suzanne Valadon.The exhibition reveals how a dynamic collaboration – including a visionary grain merchant from Northern Jutland – made it possible for French modernism to become part of Denmark's national art treasure.Read more here: https://www.smkthy.dk/exhibition/rejsen-fra-paris/ Experience the Video Work Tiden og Stunden 11 October 2025 – 1 March 2026During the dark autumn and winter months, SMK Thy presents the video work Tiden og Stunden by artist Marie Kølbæk Iversen. The work depicts the current state of the local waters with underwater footage from the North Sea and the Limfjord.From sunset to sunrise, the piece lights up through the glass facades of the Warehouse, revealing an underwater landscape that suggests both hopeful and dystopian scenarios.Read more here: https://www.smkthy.dk/exhibition/tiden-og-stunden/ The establishment of SMK Thy has been made possible thanks to a generous donation of nearly 50 million DKK from the A.P. Møller Foundation. The project has also received support from the Færch Foundation and the Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary Foundation.The new building is designed by Reiulf Ramstad Architects, who have created an architectural meeting point where art, history, and landscape merge.
