Hobro - Homestead of the Vikings
Located at the innermost point of Mariager Fjord lies Hobro, one of North Jutland's oldest market towns. Hobro is the largest city in the municipality and a city full of life, commerce, and culture. Most notably, Hobro is known for the unique Viking fortress Fyrkat, which was erected a thousand years ago just a few kilometers west of present-day Hobro. In September 2023, the Viking fortress Fyrkat was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List for its significance as the center of political and social life in Viking society. Also located here is the Viking Center Fyrkat, a reconstructed Viking village with plenty of activities, primarily during school holiday periods.
